A new iteration of the Apple Vision Pro is slated for release later this year according to recent industry reports. The updated version of the headset will allegedly incorporate an M4 chip, representing a significant performance enhancement over the current M2 processor powering the existing hardware.
Reports also indicate that the new model will feature a completely redesigned strap system engineered to deliver superior comfort during extended usage sessions.
The Vision Pro currently weighs approximately 1.3 pounds, which exceeds both Meta’s Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets that tip the scales at around 1.1 pounds. While seemingly modest, those additional 0.2 pounds become increasingly noticeable during prolonged wear.
The current Vision Pro ships with two strap configurations: a Solo Knit band and a Dual Loop design. The Solo Knit variant typically appears in Apple’s official product photography for the Vision Pro. However, industry reports suggest that most users prefer the Dual Loop option due to its multiple contact points that provide enhanced weight distribution and support.
This upgraded Vision Pro is positioned as an interim solution between major generational updates. Apple reportedly has no plans to reduce the device’s current premium price point of $3,499. That said, the existing model should benefit significantly from the new visionOS 26 software update launching later this year.
Numerous reports have circulated regarding Apple’s development of a lighter and more affordable Vision Pro variant—essentially a “Vision Air” model.
Industry sources suggest this lighter model won’t debut until 2027, which corresponds with previous analyses from respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo indicates that this refreshed variant would feature an M5 chip architecture.
