July 21 (UPI) — A baby raccoon found napping inside the engine compartment of a semi truck was safely rescued by an animal services officer in Colorado.
According to a social media post by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, an officer was dispatched after a report came in about a raccoon inside a truck’s engine.
“The baby raccoon was sleeping — these little guys are nocturnal — and wasn’t exactly thrilled to be woken up,” the post read. “But eventually, it latched onto the catch pole and was safely removed without injury.”
The young raccoon was later released back into the wild.
The post also noted a recent milestone: “One month ago today, on June 21, the Sheriff’s Office took over Animal Services from Arapahoe County. Since then, our officers have responded to over 100 animal-related calls involving dogs, cats, rabbits, foxes, snakes, and raccoons.”
